Dentures

Dentures are an extremely useful tool for a patient who has lost all of their teeth or no longer has any healthy teeth. With both traditional dentures and implant secured dentures, we can restore a level of function and help you rebuild some confidence. Working with our staff at Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS, Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS can evaluate your oral health following a thorough dental examination. We will review your medical needs and other requirements to customize than a treatment plan that is specified for you. A denture can make a significant difference in your life.

A patient may need a denture due to:

•  Severe decay that has led to the loss of their teeth.
•  Chronic periodontal disease, or gum disease. Infected gums create gum pockets, pulling the gums away from the tooth.
•  A traumatic impact injury leading to the loss of teeth.
•  Medical situations or medications that decrease the amount of saliva produced, leading to decay and gum disease.

Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS can replace your teeth with a denture prosthetic. A denture is a full set of false teeth for both or either your upper and bottom arch. This means that the patient has no remaining healthy teeth. Without teeth, the patient will not be able to chew foods properly, severely affecting their dietary choices, which will affect their health. The patient will also find considerable trouble with their speech and can take a severe hit to their self-confidence, especially in social situations. We can restore these necessary functions with dentures.

What are dentures?

Traditional dentures are a removable device that rests over your gum. They are held in place by suction or a store-bought denture adhesive. Traditional dentures will restore a limited ability to chew and speak but can be difficult to get used to, and they will never feel or work as your natural teeth. Most patients find it to be frustrating to keep their denture in place, or experience discomfort from the device rocking on their gums, and a certain level of embarrassment that people around you will know. With time and practice, you will begin to feel more comfortable and extend your range of use.

It is important that you care for your dentures, we recommend the following tips:

•  Dentures can be fragile if handled improperly. Take caution that they do not fall from a table or counter.
•  When removing your denture while you sleep, you will need to submerge them. You do not want your denture device to dry out, most patients keep them in a glass of water or denture cleaning solution. Hot water can be damaging to your denture, keep the water cool or tepid.
•  You will want o to brush your denture device every day. This will keep them clean, and prevent staining.
•  You will want to separately brush your gums, tongue, and palate each day, this is to remove any food particles or debris that is remaining.

Implant Retained Dentures

We can help you permanently retain your dentures with the use of dental implants. Known as immediate load dentures, implant retained dentures can significantly increase your function and comfort. In fact, implant retained dentures will feel much like your natural teeth. They do not require an outside source to hold them in place, and they remain permanently in your mouth.

Our staff at Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS are happy to review your denture options with you. The first step is scheduling an appointment for an evaluation, we can review x-ray images, and your overall health before designed a treatment plan that takes all of you into consideration.
