How To Make Brushing Teeth Fun For Your Kid

Posted on 3/20/2023 by Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS
How To Make Brushing Teeth Fun For Your KidBrushing teeth is an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene. However, convincing your child to brush their teeth regularly can be challenging. Children tend to find brushing tedious and would rather skip it altogether.

Fortunately, you can make brushing your teeth fun for your child in several ways. Below are some tips on how to make brushing your teeth an enjoyable experience for your little ones.

Use A Timer

Children have a short attention span and may lose interest in brushing their teeth after a few seconds. Using a timer can help them stay focused and make brushing more exciting. Set a two-minute timer and challenge your child to brush their teeth until the timer goes off. You can also use a sand timer, a visual aid showing the time remaining.

Brush Your Teeth Together

Children love to imitate their parents, so brushing your teeth with your child can make the activity more enjoyable. Make it a fun activity by playing music or singing songs while you brush your teeth. You can also make it a competition to see who can brush their teeth for the longest time or has the cleanest teeth.

Choose The Right Toothbrush And Toothpaste

One of the easiest ways to make brushing teeth fun for your child is to choose a toothbrush and toothpaste they love. There are several toothbrushes and toothpaste brands available that cater to children. Toothbrushes come in various designs, from cartoon characters to musical ones.

Let your child choose the toothbrush that they like the most. Toothpaste also comes in different flavors appealing to children, such as strawberry, bubblegum, and watermelon.

Create A Reward System

Children love rewards and creating a reward system can make brushing their teeth more fun. Create a chart and give your child a sticker when brushing their teeth. After a certain number of stickers, your child can get a small reward, such as a toy or a treat. This will motivate your child to brush their teeth regularly.
