Ways to Naturally Whiten your Teeth at Home

Posted on 6/5/2023 by Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS
Ways to Naturally Whiten your Teeth at HomeHome remedies are a way of whitening teeth at home using readily available kitchen products that are not necessarily meant for whitening teeth. Stained and yellow teeth can impact the aesthetic appearance of teeth, causing one to be self-conscious about their appearance. This is where home remedies come in. They offer a low-cost, all-natural way of fixing discolored teeth, helping restore the aesthetic appearance of teeth. It is essential to consult the dentist before using home remedies to confirm that they are entirely safe to use for tooth whitening since every person's teeth are different, and some are prone to being more sensitive than others.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an abrasive material that removes plaque and stains from teeth by scraping. Use a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with water to wash your teeth after using the remedy, then rinse it off after some minutes. Use Sodium Bicarbonate in small amounts as it can eat at the enamel. It is crucial to remember that while baking soda might help remove surface stains, it might not be as beneficial for treating more severe discoloration or stains brought on by dental problems at the root.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent that effectively removes stains and whitens teeth. It works by breaking down the chemical bonds of the stains, making them less visible. Mix hydrogen peroxide equally with water to use as a teeth-whitening remedy. After the application, wait three minutes, then use water to rinse it off. Hydrogen peroxide can cause tooth sensitivity and irritation if not used in moderation.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is the dental practice of swishing coconut oil around your mouth for fifteen to twenty minutes. Coconut oil works by pulling bacteria and plaque from the surface of teeth. Coconut oil also contains antibacterial properties that eradicate harmful bacteria from the mouth.
