What Services Fall Under Restorative Dentistry?

If your teeth have been damaged through trauma, decay, or everyday wear and tear, you are a candidate for restorative dentistry. Restorative dentistry is a term that encompasses a number of procedures. Here's more information on some of the more popular forms of restorative dentistry.

Dental Veneers

A veneer is a thin piece of material-usually porcelain-that looks like a natural tooth.

It is attached to the front of your natural tooth with a specialized dental adhesive. Once a veneer is in place, it looks, feels, and operates just like a normal tooth. Veneers can be used to repair teeth that have been chipped or cracked, or they may be used for purely cosmetic purposes such as filling in gaps, straightening, and covering stained or discolored teeth.

Dental Crowns

A crown is basically like a cap that fits over a tooth that has been damaged. If you have cracked or broken a tooth, your dentist can take a measurement of it and craft a porcelain crown to fit over the top.

The crown will look like your natural tooth, and will be specifically fashioned to fit against the other teeth just like your natural tooth did. Crowns are cared for just like normal teeth: regular brushing, flossing, and trips to your dentist's office for cleaning.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

If you have developed tooth decay (a cavity), your dentist can remove it and give you a filling made of a composite material that mimics the appearance of your natural tooth.

In years past, fillings were made out of a silver or gold amalgam, and were very evident. With today's technology your dentist can craft a filling that is virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

There are several options available to you if you need restorative dentistry. We have covered only a few of the most popular here. Contact our office today so they can help you determine which option is best for you.
