When you have a new tooth come in, it can make your entire mouth sore. This is true for babies all the way up through young adults getting their wisdom teeth. What are you supposed to do if one of those teeth is poorly angled and pushing out against your cheek? The truth is, you have limited options. Depending on why the tooth is pushing out and where the erupting tooth is located, you may have to struggle with the pain until the tooth comes in a little further. Why Some Teeth Come In SidewaysWhen some teeth erupt, they simply do not have the room to come in perfectly straight. There are some people out there with a perfectly shaped and sized mouth, where every tooth comes in straight. However, the vast majority of mouths do not work that way. Your tooth is trying to push its way in, moving other structures out of the way. If the other structures are solidly in place, such as your teeth, it may disrupt the direction your new tooth comes in. When you face this issue, you can try a few different things. First, you can come in and see us. We may be able to help guide that tooth into a straighter position to give you a bit of relief. Second, you can try covering the edge of the tooth with dental wax to keep your cheek from getting raw. Finally, you can wait until the tooth comes in a bit more and see if it straightens out on its own. Most teeth that come in awkwardly, stay that way until they get help. The sooner you come in and let us get a look at what is going on, the sooner you are likely to find relief. Call us today, and let us help ease your pain. |
