Does Oral Sedation Provide You with Any Benefit?

Posted on 11/10/2019 by Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS
Does Oral Sedation Provide You with Any Benefit? Many people loathe the dentist, and we understand that having dental surgery can be frightening. We know that some people may avoid coming to our office out of fear that they will experience unbearable pain and decide that their dental care is less important than the pain they might experience.

However, we want to say that dental health is very important, not only for your mouth but also your bodily health. If you decide to forgo dental care that is necessary, you could experience more pain than the actual treatment would cause.

So now you may be saying, “Well, oral surgery is going to be painful, right?” but we can assure you that we will do our best to keep you comfortable any time you come in for a visit. One way that we make sure the pain is minimal when performing oral surgery is to implement sedation depending on the procedure. Oral sedation can be a great way to reduce your pain and worries about the procedure while still getting the dental care that you need.

How Does Oral Sedation Work?

Oral sedation can be implemented in various ways depending on the procedure, but in general, we will sedate you before we begin our procedure. While sedated, you will be unconscious and feel none of the pain. We can use oral sedation for many different procedures that require invasive methods to help you. Two of the most common scenarios we implement oral sedation is when someone is having wisdom teeth removed and when someone is receiving dental implants.

After waking up from oral sedation, some patients need some time to readjust to everything, but typically in a few hours, patients are back to normal with limited pain in their mouth. The benefits of oral sedation mean that you can get the care you need when you need it without any of the nervousness that comes along with it.

We understand why some people are nervous about oral surgeries, but we are here to help you keep your smile healthy and beautiful. If you have any more questions about how or why we implement oral sedation, call our office and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
