Why Do You Need to Get Dental Impressions?

Why Do You Need to Get Dental Impressions? You have probably gone through the not so pleasant experience of having a tray or guard full of pink goop or gel pressed against the roof of your mouth to get dental impressions.

Before a dentist decides to introduce any foreign object to your teeth, they take a dental impression to make sure the new bridge or crown will align with your bite. These impressions are there to create a replica of your mouth so that the repairs done feel natural without the risk of irritating the sensitive tissue lining inside the gums and cheeks.

There are three main types of dental impressions: bite registrations, final impressions and preliminary impressions. A lot in dentistry has changed, however, to provide higher dental impression accuracy as well as vastly improved patient comfort.

Digital Dental Impressions

Digital dental impressions use digital technology to develop dental impressions on a computer. A dental instrument that has a camera takes multiple shots of your oral cavity while creating a three-dimensional model. The final image is forwarded to the lab for further observation. With digital impressions, there is no gag reflex, and it takes way less time as compared to conventional impressions. This means you do not have to spend so much time in the chair as before.

Digital impressions also reduce the margin of error associated with more traditional impression techniques. This technology is also used in the creation of same day Honolulu dental restorations, meaning one dental visit can restore your beautiful smile.

Why Dental Impressions?

After having a cracked or broken tooth, an impression is one of the primary steps taken to get the crown or bridge replaced. In most cases, impressions are made to fix one single tooth. Research has it that 85% of repair units are single crowns as compared to full bridges. Despite all of its natural grooves and bumps, we can create a permanent bridge or crown that will fit perfectly over the existent tooth structure when we take a dental impression.

It is the best way to achieve a personal and comfortable suit considering no two sets of teeth are exactly alike. A new dental restoration needs to fit perfectly and look natural. Make sure to come by our office for your next successful dental impression!
