Teeth Get Healthier When You Eat Celery

Posted on 6/8/2020 by Dr. Janice Pliszczak
Teeth Get Healthier When You Eat CeleryCelery is one of the most versatile crunchy veggies out there. You can use it in a wide range of recipes from full-course meals to desserts, appetizers, and snacks. While eating celery is highly beneficial for your overall health, it can specifically imbue your dentition with boatloads of benefits.

For starters, it's crunchy, fibrous texture is delightful to taste, but also promotes oral health in multiple ways. The fiber contents help you rack up the intake of the recommended daily allowance of fiber, which is vital to your oral health. Celery fiber helps shore up your gums and teeth against gum recession and bone loss in the jaw. But before they're absorbed into the body, the fiber materials do a good job of wiping the tooth's surface to remove bacteria and plaque buildup. They also stimulate saliva secretion, which, in turn, suppresses acidity levels in the mouth and washes off the bacteria and plaque from the mouth.

But while these benefits do not necessarily make celery consumption an ideal replacement for regular brushing and flossing, there are many other reasons why you should be eating celery regularly to maintain optimal oral health.

The Multiplicity of Ways in Which Celery Helps Promote Oral Health

Besides its highly beneficial fiber contents, celery also comes with other features that help promote oral health. Celery helps assuage inflammation and aching nerves. Hence, you can consume celery (preferably celery juice) to help heal tooth problems like sensitivity, gum infection, swollen gums, etc. Celery juice also inhibits the buildup of rancid fats in the intestinal tract, which generates ammonia gases that are harmful to the teeth and gums.

What's more, celery also has vitamin C in abundance and in a form that doesn't need to be converted in the liver. Not only is Vitamin C crucial to your oral health, but it also accelerates the recovery from various health ails that affect your dentition, from autoimmune diseases to diabetes, inflammation, etc.
