Cavities Can Get Painful So Get Regular Check-ups to Avoid ThemMost people are aware of how to practice good oral care at home, but it alone isn't enough to maintain your oral health. Cavities can go undetected for long periods, so regular check-ups are important for early treatment and any developing problems.

What Happens at Dental Visits?

Having regular dental check-ups is vital for maintaining your oral health because we can help keep your teeth and gums healthy. You should book in dental visits every six months, at minimum, or as recommended during your appointment.

During your dental check-up we will check for cavities, which may be done via an x-ray if appropriate. We will also check for plaque and tartar on your teeth. Plaque is a sticky layer of bacteria which can become tartar if it is left to build up. Once plaque has hardened and turned into tartar, you can no longer remove it with regular brushing and flossing.

Your gums will then be checked over with a tool that is used to measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. In healthy gums, these spaces are shallow, but those with gum issues these spaces may have become deeper.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene at Home

Between your dental check-ups, you should continue maintaining good oral care at home. To take care of your teeth and gums, here are some tips to follow.

Make sure that you are brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Mouthwash and flossing are great in controlling plaque and cleaning those awkward places that are hard to reach with a toothbrush.

Dental problems like cavities can often go unnoticed for a long time, so it is essential to attend regular check-ups. Regular dental check-ups are vital for preventative care and catching any issues early on. To book your regular dental check-up with us, contact our office today!
