Many Different Viruses Can Leave Your Mouth Less Healthy

When someone has a virus in their body, it can not only affect how you feel, but it can also affect your mouth. Some viruses wreak havoc on your gums, others irritate your throat, and still other viruses show up on the lining of your cheeks. Regardless of the location, viruses can leave your mouth less healthy.

Viruses That Leave a Mark in Your Mouth

Mouth sores, for instance can be caused by viral infections. They are characteristically red areas of swelling in the lining of the mouth. Ulcers, a term used synonymously with mouth sores, may also be white. Dead cells and food debris maybe in the inner portion of the ulcer. There are many different types of mouth sores. The viruses herpes simplex and herpes zoster are often responsible for mouth sores. However, many other viruses can cause mouth sores.

Varicella-zoster is the virus behind for chickenpox as well as shingles. Many say this virus never leaves the body. This virus can leave your mouth less healthy as it can cause multiple sores in your mouth. Occasionally, the mouth remains painful for a long time after the sores have healed.
