Dental Bonding

Dental BondingDentists can use dental bonding to fix cracked, discolored, or chipped teeth that are inexpensive and least invasive. To improve the appearance of your teeth, your dentist will use a resin that matches the color of your teeth. It's cheaper than veneers, crowns, even some whitening procedures. Among the simplest dental procedures, bonding is used to repair teeth. You can use it to fix small corrections or chipped/broken spots on teeth while preserving their natural structure. Dentists recommend dental bonding as a less invasive, less expensive, and more versatile alternative to other cosmetic procedures. In most cases, there's no need for anesthesia. Placing dental resin on teeth will fill in holes, correct discoloration spots, and generally improve their shape.

Reasons for Bonded Teeth

Bonding can be used to repair decaying, chipped, or broken teeth. Composite resin can be shaped into almost any shape or size to cover a portion of a tooth. In small cases, or even when one tooth is damaged, dental bonding is a very popular choice.

Pros and Cons

Among the cheapest cosmetic dental procedures is bonding. In most cases, a single visit is required (unless there are multiple teeth or cavities). As compared to porcelain veneers, dental bonding doesn't require much enamel removal. If you have bonded teeth, you can whiten them, but you should consult your dentist first. A disadvantage of dental bonding is that composite resin isn't as stain-resistant as a veneer or crown. Cigarette smoking and drinking coffee or tea can fade the color. Bonds do not usually last as long as other treatments such as fillings, veneers, or crowns, and need to be redone every 5-10 years. Bonding materials can break or chip more quickly than porcelain veneers. It is most effective on teeth with less direct biting/chewing pressure, like front teeth.
